About FlameStar Cakes

Hello and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Kayt and I run FlameStar Cakes from my home in Cam, Gloucestershire. 

My love of baking began with regular visits with my Granny when I was young. We would bake cakes, scones and biscuits in her farmhouse kitchen, me balancing on a chair in my Bunnikins apron. It was Grans who bought me my first baking recipe book – the indispensable Fast Cakes by Mary Berry – which, now rather dog-eared and full of scribbled notes, still has pride of place on my bookshelf. 

Things stepped up a level when I had my first child in 2010. My mum had always created wonderful cakes for my brother and I (my Grandma pinching the marzipan Owl and Pussycat was a particular highlight one year) and I was determined to follow in her footsteps. So, with many hours watching Food Network and much making it up as I went along, a 3D Thomas the Tank Engine was presented to my eldest son on his first birthday. 

From there things escalated and over the following 10 years I had three more children and acquired 4 Godchildren on whom to hone my skills. When my youngest daughter started school the time felt right to start FlameStar Cakes. I just adore baking and decorating cakes; the opportunity to create them for other people remains incredibly exciting and fulfilling. I get so much joy from seeing people’s faces, particularly children, when they see their ideas come to life in cake form. I pride myself on making each design unique and I love being given a theme and discovering new ways to showcase it – I’ve done several Frozen and Harry Potter themed cakes in the last few years and each has been different!

Whilst children’s cakes are where I started, I love the opportunity to design more elegant and formal pieces. I was very excited when I finally felt brave enough to make my youngest’s Christening cake. Since then I have also been commissioned to create several multi-tiered wedding cakes with handcrafted flowers and bespoke designs, which have been hugely satisfying to make. It is always such an honour to create the centrepiece for such a special day in a couple’s life.
